HOBE SOUND, Fla. (CBS12) — It looks like the plans to implement golf courses at Jonathon Dickinson State Park have suffered a major setback.
Congressman Brian Mast reposted a post from Daniel Bongino stating that Folds of Hope, the organization that planned to build a par-five golf course in the state park, has canceled its project.
“We treasure this park and will fight tooth and nail to protect it,” said Mast.
CBS12 News has reached out to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to understand the implications this has on the park’s plans.
The FDEP spokesperson told CBS12 News that “While they are withdrawing their proposal, the Foundation worked with the state to pursue a project that would have created a public, world class golf course for all, while supporting veterans, first responders and their families. We appreciate their decision to pursue projects outside of the park and will continue to support the Foundation’s mission.”
She continued on to say that the Tuskegee Dunes Foundation’s project is being removed from their agency’s review.
Bongino’s post stated that he had spoken to Folds of Honor, and they assured him that they would cancel the project.
“They are great people, doing great things. They just didn’t understand the local passion for JD Park. They heard us and did the right thing,” said Bongino.
Bongino said a statement went out to the Florida media from the Tuskegee Dunes Foundation, which the he included in his post. CBS12 did not receive a copy of the statement and have reached out to the organization for comment.
