BALTIMORE — A Maryland woman died two days after she was ejected from a golf cart in Annapolis.
Mary Beth Blasetti, a 32-year-old wife and mother of a 2-month-old girl, was the passenger in the golf cart when they hit a dip in the roadway on Saturday, November 9. Police said Blasetti was thrown from the vehicle driven by an unidentified woman.
Blasetti was airlifted to shock trauma and died on Monday. The women were riding in the golf cart in the 600 block of Maid Marion Hill, close to a members-only golf course.
“It appears at a certain point they hit some sort of a dip, and at that point, that passenger was ejected from that golf cart or thrown from the golf cart,” said Justin Mulcahy, with the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Mulcahy said the crash appears to have been an accident but police are investigating.
“This is an extremely tragic, unfortunate situation,” Mulcahy said. “Our hearts go out to everyone impacted and we’re going to continue investigating it with the State’s Attorney’s Office just to determine what exactly happened here.”
Friends said Blasetti and her husband recently purchased their first home in Annapolis and welcomed their daughter in September.
Blasetti was a University of West Virginia alumnus and member of the Alpha Phi Sorority, according to a Facebook post.
Tributes poured in on the social media site, including pictures of floral arrangements from her sorority sisters.
Friends and family members said on an online fundraiser that Blasetti was a “devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend… And her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.”
At last check, the online fundraiser has raised nearly $300,000 for Balsetti’s family.
