Marion Country Club hosts seventh Harding Amateur Golf Tournament, crowns champs

MARION — The Marion Country Club recently hosted the seventh annual Harding Amateur Golf Tournament.

This year’s honorees were Paul and Bob Ludwig for their contributions to golf in the Marion area for 60 years. Paul Ludwig’s daughter, Laura Tiberi, presented the championship trophy, while Paul’s great grandson and Tiberi’s grandson, Zach Prenoveau, won the Schoolboys Division in a playoff over Asher Gates, while Eli Charles was third.

Winning the championship division with scores of 72 and 69 over two days was Alan Dixon, while Grant Gates was the runner-up and Nick Steffanni was third.

In the Mid-Am Division for those ages 19 to 49, Kameron Hall won the A Flight followed by Nick McCleese and Dr. Mike McCleese, while Clay Ralston won the B Flight followed by Matt Owdom and Kelly McGowan Jr.

Joey Stephens won the Senior Division for those 50 and older, beating second-place Tony Bourbounais and Dr. Brad Campbell in third.

There were three flights in the 60-and-older Super Senior Division. Mike Piper, Dave Neer and Dale Osborn won the A, B and C flights, respectively. Taking second and third in the A were Steve Tolnar (who had a hole-in-one in the tournament) and Dan Downs, while in the B were Kelly McGowan Sr. and Rob Van Meter and in the C were Bob Johnson and Jim Newell.

Dick Roux had the most improvement going from 85 to 72 to win the B Flight of the 70-and-older Legends Division. Lonnie Granger and Larry Milliron tied for second behind him. In the A Flight, Dr. Bob Concepcion shot 67 and 69 to win it as Doug Savage was second and Rex Parrott third.

In the Super Legends Division for those 80 and older, Dr. Bob Finney won, while Ed Schoonmaker was second and Don Miller third.
