HINSDALE, IL – A Hinsdale shopping center has a lot of empty storefronts, but it is likely to have one fewer in a few months, officials said.
KBarre Hindsale is planned for Gateway Square at 777 N. York Road. It is a Barre franchise that uses the Bar Method in its workouts. The business aims to offer several types of classes.
The Village Board is considering a special use permit for the business. A portion of the space is expected to be used for retail.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Village President Tom Cauley said the shopping center had a relatively high vacancy rate.
He said the village prefers sales tax-generating businesses, which do not include services such as gyms. But he said the village also must take into account the many empty storefronts.
Hinsdale residents Kate and Chris Karam are the business owners.
“We’re excited to bring (KBarre) to the community and also bring more people into Gateway Square, a lot of great businesses there,” Kate Karam said.
Trustee Alexis Braden said she looked forward to it.
“I’ve been waiting for the Bar Method to come to town for over a decade. So excited,” Braden said.
Kate Karam said they hoped to open the business in early June.
The board is expected to vote on the permit in a couple of weeks. No one objected to the proposal Tuesday.
