A man has died at a shopping centre in Melbourne after he reportedly barricaded himself inside a toilet cubicle following a failed robbery attempt.
Victoria Police were called to Lynbrook Shopping Centre in the city’s south-east after reports of a robbery at 12.30pm on Friday.
Police attempted to arrest the man before he fled on foot inside the centre on South Gippsland Highway.
The man was found a short time later with life threatening injuries inside the cubicle which are believed to be have been self-inflicted.
Emergency services attempted to revive the man but he was ultimately declared dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
A dozen emergency vehicles were seen outside the centre during the initial police response.

CCTV footage caught paramedics wheeling a man out of the building on a stretcher.
Detectives will investigate the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command which is standard practice when someone dies in police presence.
