Donald Trump recently took to the golf course with pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau, and within just hours of being posted, the video has garnered hundreds of thousands of views.
Their match-up, in which DeChambeau “attempted to Break 50 from the red tees” with the former POTUS, served as a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization supporting veterans. As of the publication of this story, the video had raised over $10,000 from online donors.
In the video, Trump said that he and Joe Biden, who has since announced that he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential election, “had an argument about golf” during their debate in June.
DeChambeau had actually posted the following on X at the time, tagging both Biden and Trump: “Let’s settle this whole handicap debate, I’ll host the golf match on my YouTube.”
Shortly after DeChambeau promoted the special on X on Monday (July 22), noting that they will be “donating $10,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project for every stroke [they] score under par, he addressed critics, clarifying that “this is about golf and giving back to our nation’s veterans, not politics.”
“A few weeks ago I reached out to both parties’ presidential campaigns and @realDonaldTrump was down for the challenge,” he added. “It is an incredible honor to be able to enjoy a round of golf with any sitting or former president, and all have an open invitation to join me for a round of Break 50 anytime.”
He also highlighted that the special was “filmed during the first week of July,” meaning that it took place prior to the assassination attempt of Trump at his July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and before DeChambeau traveled overseas for the British Open.
Others that DeChambeau has taken on the “Break 50” challenge with include fellow golfers Grant Horvat, Paige Spiranac, and Sergio García.
The video, which clocks in at 56 minutes and 15 seconds, is available to watch above — or on DeChambeau’s YouTube page.
