Major NYPD response to shooting at shopping mall in Charleston; 1 person taken to hospital
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A major police response is underway after an individual was shot at an outdoor shopping mall in Charleston on Thursday morning, according to authorities.
The incident was called at 5:26 a.m. at 2750 Veterans Road West between Bricktown Way and Tyrellan Avenue, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.
An individual was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, according to the FDNY spokesman.
A condition is not immediately available for the individual, according to the FDNY.
A source with knowledge of the investigation confirmed that a shooting occurred, but was unable to provide any details.
A large number of NYPD vehicles and personnel have responded to the parking lot where caution tape is spread across spaces near Home Depot.
The Emergency Service Unit (ESU) and the Highway Patrol are among the responding teams.
