Magnum Force took advantage of a sharp early pace, rallying to upset the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint by a half-length at 12-1 odds.
Governor Sam broke well and shook clear to make the early running. He set a solid pace, with 21.77 seconds for the opening quarter, while Magnum Force waited toward the rear. Around the far turn, long shot Jet Sweep Joe briefly contended for the pace, but weakened from upper stretch.
Into the lane, Magnum Force made a sharp run inside foes. He switched out midstretch to get outside of the pacesetter. Governor Sam remained up front as the clock marked 44.69 seconds for the half, but Magnum Force was moving best between horses, getting up for the win.

Arizona Blaze, a 25-1 long shot, ran on for place, getting up by a half-length over the pacesetter. Governor Sam dug in gamely over Big Mojo to take the photo for show by a nose, with Whistlejacket completing the high five. 5-2 favorite Ecoro Sieg took up early, steadied to midpack, and was not a threat in the lane.
Magnum Force stopped the timer in 56.36 seconds for five furlongs on firm turf, paying his backers $27.00 to win.
Magnum Force, trained by Ger Lyons, was not a stakes winner before the Breeders’ Cup. However, the 2-year-old son of Mehmas was third in the Flying Childers (G2) at Doncaster in his final preparation for the Breeders’ Cup.
