Lys, ranked No 126, will play the winner of the match between Ukrainian qualifier Yulia Starodubtseva and qualifier Sonay Kartal next.
Earlier in the tournament, the 22-year-old German won against Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (6-3, 7-5) and edged out Belgian Elise Mertens, the top seed (1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4)).
Sonmez, ranked No 148, beat Spaniard Rebeka Masarova (4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3) and Belgian Greet Minnen, the No 6 seed (6-4, 1-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Monastir tournament.
