No. 5 LSU women’s basketball was part of a record setting effort on Sunday.
Per a social media post by ESPN on Wednesday, the Tigers’ game against No. 3 Texas averaged 1.7 million viewers and peaked at 2.3 million viewers. It was the third most-watched regular-season women’s college basketball game in ESPN’s history broadcasting the sport.
The. matchup was part of a women’s basketball doubleheader as No. 4 South Carolina and No. 7 UConn faced off in the earlier window. It was the fourth most-watched regular season women’s basketball behind LSU-Texas. It averaged 1.8 million viewers and peaked at 2.2 million viewers. College GameDay was the most-watched regular season installment of the women’s basketball edition since 2010.
The Longhorns prevailed with a 65-58 over head coach Kim Mulkey’s team. The Huskies handed the Gamecocks their first regular season home loss in dominating fashion with a 87-58 victory.
LSU closes out the regular season with games against Georgia, No. 14 Kentucky and No. 18 Alabama.
