Heading into the final weekend of October, there are just two SEC football teams remaining with undefeated conference records.

On Saturday, they just so happen to be playing one another.

In what might be the standout game from a crowded Week 9 slate, No. 7 LSU will pay a visit to No. 14 Texas A&M at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas in a matchup with significant conference title and College Football Playoff ramifications.

Each team enters the contest with one loss, but they both occurred outside of conference play — LSU to USC and Texas A&M to No. 11 Notre Dame, both of which came in Week 1 — meaning that both the Tigers and Aggies remain in enviable position to make it to Atlanta in early December for the SEC championship game.

While LSU’s offense has been explosive with quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, it’s the Tigers’ defense that has shown noticeable improvement under first-year defensive coordinator Blake Baker. LSU is allowing 20.6 points per game through its first seven contests after allowing 28 points per game last season.

Texas A&M, meanwhile, has put the disappointment of the Jimbo Fisher era behind it under first-year head coach Mike Elko, with a 6-1 record more than halfway through the regular season. If the Aggies are able to get past LSU, their next three games are against unranked opponents before their much-anticipated season finale against archrival Texas, which they haven’t played since 2011.

The Tigers have dominated the series for much of the past 15 years, with 10 victories in 13 matchups since 2011. The series has shown the potential for chaos, like in 2018 when Texas A&M defeated LSU 74-72 in seven overtimes, a game that prompted overtime rules changes from the NCAA.

It will be quite the color contrast Saturday night in College Station. Host Texas A&M is going with an all-black alternate uniform get-up, complete with black helmets with a script “Aggies.” LSU, meanwhile, will be going with white helmets, a break from their traditional yellow lids.

ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ crew makes its picks for LSU vs Texas A&M

ESPN’s five-member panel on “College GameDay” was almost evenly split when predicting the winner of the matchup between LSU and Texas A&M.

Nick Saban, Pat McAfee and Desmond Howard went with the Tigers while Lee Corso and celebrity guest-picker Kyle Schwarber picked the Aggies. Kirk Herbstreit abstained from making a selection as he’s calling the game tonight for ABC as an analyst.
