LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – The Lawton Police Department confirmed they are investigating Saturday’s Lawton Golf Course death as an apparent suicide.
The individual found dead at the golf course was identified as David Beckner.
Beckner was charged with first-degree manslaughter in 2022 for the death of Jeffery McClung.
According to court documents, Beckner told investigators someone tried to break into his home and when he went outside he saw McClung under another home’s window. Beckner then allegedly confronted the man, but McClung took off.
Witnesses at the scene said they saw Beckner chase after McClung before a fight broke out between the two men, according to court documents.
McClung was found dead in the road from a large laceration to his throat and torso.
During a preliminary hearing in April 2023, it was said by a witness that Beckner told them McClung fought with his father after breaking into his home.
Beckner had not gone to trial as the court case against him was continued to the October/November docket for later this year.
