A prison inmate who ran a large-scale sports gambling operation in multiple state prisons has been arrested, Louisiana State Police said.
Broderick Scott, 48, of Addis, was allegedly using contraband smuggled into the prison, and troopers identified more than 30,000 transactions linked to his gambling operation, according to a news release about the arrest.
The investigation began in May 2023, after State Police received a complaint about contraband smuggling in multiple Louisiana Department of Corrections facilities, including Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel. State Police then worked with the Department of Public Safety to unearth Scott’s gambling operation.
Scott was booked into Iberville Parish Jail on Dec. 18, on counts of felony gambling and the unlawful establishment of accounts on social networking websites by inmates, which is a misdemeanor.
