Nick Kyrgios is seemingly nearing a long-awaited return to tennis, with the controversial figure planning to play at the Australian Open.
Kyrgios will play team tennis later this year, but at the very top of his agenda will be a return to the first Grand Slam of 2025.
The Australian has been sidelined for quite some time with injury, but Kyrgios is confident of making the Australian Open.
Kyrgios last played a competitive match at the 2023 Stuttgart Open, having been plagued by injury since that early exit.
But his preparations have stepped up in recent times, with Kyrgios perhaps set for a mixed reaction when he finally makes it back onto the court.
The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up certainly hasn’t pleased everyone during his time off, having taken up commentary at several tournaments this season.
His latest endeavour involved a lengthy discussion with Louis Theroux, with the latter noting his observations of the former on The Louis Theroux Podcast.

“Looking back, he was obviously more guarded in some respects than he has been in the past in the sense that he has a reputation to keep up, and he’s doing broadcasting and doesn’t want to damage his relationships – which I well understand,” said Theroux. “I also noticed that he seems to yawn when he is uncomfortable, so make of that what you wish.”
Kyrgios only managed one match in his injury-riddled 2023 season, losing his Stuttgart Open round of 32 tie with Wu Yibing.
But he can be proud of his efforts before then, with the 29-year-old boasting seven tour-level titles so far.
He has a 205-114 win-loss record, with Kyrgios having reached a career-high ATP Tour ranking of 13 in 2016.

Whether or not he can make a successful return remains to be seen, but the sport has undotubedly changed since he was at the top of his game.
Kyrgios is, of course, also a men’s doubles specialist, having won the 2022 Australian Open alongside compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.
