A seaside Cape Cod resort is getting a makeover in time for its 100th anniversary.
The five-star Wequassett Resort and Golf Club, situated on 27 acres overlooking Pleasant Bay and the Atlantic Ocean in Harwich, is undergoing an extensive, multi-year $12 million renovation slated for completion in April. The getaway welcomed its first guests in 1925.
The first phase of the renovation, completed last summer, included updates to the hotel’s main lobby, meeting rooms, dining venues Twenty-Eight Atlantic and the waterfront Outer Bar, eight private poolside cabanas, and its Hydrangea Cottage overlooking Round Cove. A coffee spot named The Sill featuring homemade pastries was also added.
Phase two of the renovation, currently underway, is focused on where guests sleep, with a renovation and refresh of its 113 guest rooms, villas, and cottages.
“A century of hospitality is a monumental milestone, and this renovation pays tribute to Wequassett’s storied history while preparing us for an exciting future,” said Gary Thulander, regional area manager at Wequassett Resort and Golf Club, in a statement. “Our commitment to excellence drives us to continually evolve, ensuring that Wequassett remains a beloved Cape Cod destination for generations to come.”
The new guest rooms, inspired by Cape Cod’s natural beauty, have a residential feel and are designed by Boston-based design firm Reider & Co. The rooms sport coastal blues and subtle nautical elements, custom-made furniture, and include “calming materials” such as grasscloth wall coverings, sheer drapery, and linen textures, according to the team.
The hotel’s signature suites are getting new flooring, elevated lighting upgrades, wet bars, and softer colors and patterns such as houndstooth and plaid. The Round Cove suite, the resort’s largest accommodation at 1,000 square feet, boasts a separate living area, desk, two sofas, and a dining table for six.
Meanwhile, the villas and cottages, which feature a range of sitting areas, have an even more relaxed vibe. Villas include a dining table with upholstered chairs, a lounge chair, and in some rooms, a sleeper sofa with a coffee table and ottoman.
Bathrooms across the property have new finishes and soaking tubs and some of the villas and cottages are undergoing tub-to-shower conversions.
New artwork at the resort includes a watercolor mural, designed by Reider & Co. for The Outer Bar’s focal wall and inspired by the surrounding water views.
In celebration of the renovation and 100th anniversary, guests will receive the a celebratory bottle of wine upon arrival and a $100 resort credit.
Rates begin at $405 per night through May, $613 per night in June, and $946 per night during the peak summer months.
