Packers kicker Brandon McManus addresses allegations, new opportunity
New Packers kicker Brandon McManus talks the sexual assault and harassment allegations against him and how he wants to move forward in Green Bay.
The Green Bay Packers announced Wednesday that longtime kicker Mason Crosby, last with the team in 2022, will retire from the NFL as a member of the franchise.
Crosby, 40, spent 16 seasons with Green Bay from 2007 to 2022, then briefly saw action in three games for the New York Giants in 2023. He currently hosts a radio show in Milwaukee at 105.7 FM The Fan and said in February that his time in the NFL was over.
He booted a game-winning kick in his NFL debut in 2007 after the Packers selected him in the sixth round of the NFL draft from Colorado. That was the first of a franchise-most 258 regular-season Packers games and 23 playoff games, including one memorable victory in Dallas in early 2017 that featured a 51-yard make as time expired.
Crosby owns the franchise record for most points (1,918) and field goals (395). He was part of a Super Bowl champion, three NFC Championship Game qualifiers, 12 playoff teams and nine division titles. He had the eight longest field goals in franchise history during his tenure, topping out with a 58-yarder in 2011.
His 15 seasons of 100-plus points rank third-most in NFL history behind only Adam Vinatieri (21 seasons) and Jason Elam (16). He went 16-for-16 on field goals in 2020.
Only Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson has also played in more than 250 regular-season games and scored 1,900 or more points with a single team.
Green Bay signaled a desire to move on from Crosby when it drafted Anders Carlson in the sixth round of the 2024 draft. The move didn’t pay off; Carlson missed 13 kicks in his rookie season between field goals and extra points, including a notable miss in a 24-21 playoff loss to San Francisco.
Neither Carlson nor veteran challenger Greg Joseph won the job out of camp in 2024, with the Packers instead choosing rookie Brayden Narveson, cut by the Tennessee Titans.
When Narveson struggled, Green Bay turned to veteran Brandon McManus in October. McManus went on to make all 30 extra points and 20 of 21 field goals in the regular season (1-for-2 in the playoffs) and was just re-signed to a three-year deal.
