LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) – The second annual Travis Hurley Memorial Golf Scramble organized by the London Police Department Fallen Officer Foundation is coming up.
On August 16, players will put their best tee forward to support a good cause and remember an even better friend.
Lieutenant Hurley was a 21 year veteran of the London Police Department when he retired in 2021. However, he decided to return to the police department as a school resource officer before he died of Covid-19 complications in 2022.
“He was really big on community policing. He used to go around reading to all the schools during Read Across America Week. He’s very big on that, so that is one thing he’s definitely remembered for. That and his big, infectious laugh,” said London Police Department Public Affairs Officer Hobie Daugherty.
Officer Daugherty said the goal of the event is to keep Lieutenant Hurley’s legacy alive.
“Any funds raised are going to go to further the mission of the foundation which is to support the family and support the community,” he said. “The main goal is just to keep his memory and his legacy alive.”
The price to register a team of four people costs $400. If you’re not the golfing type, don’t worry. Officer Daugherty said there are other ways to contribute.
“There is also the ability to donate or become a hole sponsor. We allow businesses to pay one hundred dollars. That gets their business or individuals name on a sign that’s placed on the tee boxes.”
For those who do participate in the event, there will be cash prizes.
“The prizes for the golf scramble is first place is one thousand dollars, second place eight hundred, and then third place is going to be five hundred dollars.”
Officer Daugherty said Lieutenant Hurley loved his community, and this event will allow them to gather in his name.
