Alabama football is set to take on Vanderbilt Saturday in the first road SEC game of Kalen DeBoer’s tenure as head coach. The Crimson Tide, coming off a win over Georgia last week at Bryant-Denny Stadium, enters undefeated through four weeks, and as the newly crowned No. 1 team in the Associated Press media poll.
Vanderbilt had a bye week before facing Alabama. The Commodores fell to Missouri in its last game, taking the Tigers to double-overtime in Columbia.
The game in Nashville is the Tide’s first afternoon window kickoff of the season. It’s scheduled to kick off at 3:15 p.m. CT and will be airs on the SEC Network
15:00– Vanderbilt has the ball on Alabama’s 45 to start the second.
— Jihaad Campbell gets called for a face mask on a Pavia run. Vanderbilt once again pushing deep in to UA territory.
— Que Robinson gets called for roughing the passer. Vanderbilt gets a first down on the Alabama 11.
— DeBoer takes his first timeout of the half with Vanderbilt on the two-yard line.
— Touchdown Vanderbilt. Alexander goes in from a yard out. Commodores expand their lead to 20-7 after the extra point, with 9:32 left in the half.
15:00– Opening kickoff is a touchback. Vanderbilt will begin on its own 25.
— Tide has a chance to get off the field on third down, but a Diego Pavia screen pass to AJ Newberry moves the Commodores into UA territory.
— Pavia escapes a sack and throws downfield, pushing it into the Alabama red zone.
— Touchdown Vanderbilt. Sedrick Alexander powers in for a 7-yard score that puts the Commodores up 7-0 after the extra point, with 8:46 left in the quarter. The score was Vanderbilt’s first TD against the Tide since 2007.
8:46– Alabama begins on its own 25 after a touchback.
— Drive ends with a pick six for Vanderbilt. Jalen Milroe’s pass was tipped into the air and intercepted by Randon Fontenette. Extra point is missed, but Commodores take a 13-0 lead with 8:03 left in the first.
8:03– Crimson Tide starts out on its own 25.
— Milroe finds CJ Dippre for a 46-yard catch and run into Vanderbilt territory.
— Tide faces a third down and Milroe hits Josh Cuevas for a first down. Cuevas is down after the play. He jogs off under his own power and Alabama has first-and-goal from the VU nine-yard line.
Touchdown Alabama. Jam Miller takes it in from eight yards out. Crimson Tide is down 13-7 after the extra point, with 4:22 left in the quarter.
4:22– Vanderbilt will begin on its own 25 after the kickoff.
— DeVonta Smith makes a solo tackle on third down to stop the Commodores short. VU lines up to punt.
— Vanderbilt punts, but gets a first down when Alabama gets called for illegal number when Ryan Williams and Zabien Brown were both on the field wearing No. 2.
— Quarter ends with Vanderbilt on the UA 45.
– Alabama ruled out wide receiver Kendrick Law for Saturday’s game. Linebacker Justin Jefferson was listed as a game-time decision.
— Alabama wins the toss and defers. Vanderbilt will receive the opening kickoff.
