LIV Golf is still trying to break into the mainstream golf conversation in the same way that the PGA Tour is, and star power is the easiest way to do that. The time is approaching for the Saudi-backed 54-hole golf league to re-up with some of its biggest names.

Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Kopeka, two of the only major champions that LIV Golf was able to poach from the PGA Tour during their prime years, both have contracts that will expire in the summer of 2026. It is vital for the tour that they retain both stars if it wants to remain relevant.

As it stands, LIV Golf is currently negotiating new deals with Kopeka, DeChambeau and others, according to Alan Shipnuck on the Dan on Golf Show with Dan Rapoport.

“There is some feverish negotiations going on because most of the big contracts are four years, a few are five,” Shipnuck said.

“Those are all going to come due soon. … It’s about Bryson and it’s about Brooks. They’re going to have to come to Jesus on Bryson and Brooks because they go back to the summer of 2022. So it just continues to be messy and fascinating.”

DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open Champion, has become one of the biggest stars in golf thanks to his YouTube channel and his incredible win over Rory McIlroy at Pinehurst last June.

Kopeka, a five-time major champion, is still a huge name despite being out of the limelight to some degree in recent years.

Meanwhile, Jon Rahm is still under contract with LIV Golf for a while as a newer member. But LIV needs a collection of stars in order to grow in popularity coming on the heels of the new deal with FOX Sports.

Retaining both DeChambeau and Kopeka is the only way to guarantee that in the near future.
