Golf enthusiasts, gear up as PGA Tour’s rival, LIV Golf, has finally posted a successful round of television viewership. Yes, you read that right. The Saudi-backed league found its footing in Adelaide, through its collaboration with FOX Sports.
According to Nuclr Golf on X, LIV Golf saw an average of 114,000 viewers for the opening round in Adelaide on FS1 between 11:20 PM and 2:15 AM. While it may not be as strong as the PGA Tour’s coverage, it was encouraging to see for new LIV CEO Scott O’Neill.
As noted on X, “The boost marks a significant increase from last weekend’s average of 19,000 for the season opener in Riyadh.”

Indeed, the LIV Golf season opener at Riyadh posted paltry and deflating numbers as Adrian Meronk went on to victory.
“Not surprised it was not a good figure. [Adrian] Meronk is not exactly a big draw in the world of golf,” said a golf fan echoing the sentiment. Whereas another mocked saying, “Wow, that still s—-!”
‘Under the lights’, Meronk stunned audiences with a 17-under-par win. And it was no small feat as his win came after overtaking Jon Rahm and Sebastian Munoz by two shots.
Now, the spotlight is on LIV Golf Adelaide. It is very possibly the reason for the sudden spike in viewership was due to Patrick Reed’s ace at the Watering Hole. The timing coincided with the extraordinary feat which sent fans into a frenzy, dousing Reed and his caddie in drinks.
Whether the spike was a flash in the pan or a sign of things to come, time will tell. But the PGA Tour is still finding ways to take jabs at the rival circuit.
LIV Golf became a laughingstock when Colt Knost, one of the broadcasters at CBS, criticized LIV during the live broadcast of the WM Phoenix Open.
“There are 24,000 people around the 16th hole today. That’s 12,000 times two if I’m not mistaken,” referencing the 12,000 viewership average at one point LIV garnered at Riyadh.
This does not mean it is all smiles on the American circuit, though.
YouTube TV and Paramount are still without a new contract. If they are unable to come to a deal within the next week, YouTube TV subscribers might lose access to CBS, and therefore a significant portion of PGA Tour content.
