LA QUINTA, CA. – Little Rock Men’s Golf wrapped up play Wednesday afternoon at The Prestige tournament at PGA West, securing a fourth-place finish with a final score of 10-under.
The Trojans relied on steady performances from freshman Freddie Turnell and seniors Matteo Cristoni and Archie Smith to stay near the top of the leader board. They carded a final-round score of 278 to close out their spring opener.
“Really solid showing by the guys this week.”- said Little Rock head coach Austin Eoff. “Freddie had a great week finishing second and playing consistent all week long only making 4 bogies for 54 holes. Archie had a tough start today but battled back to finish inside the top-20 and put together a solid week without his A game. The pair had 2 of the 3 bogey free rounds of the entire field during the event. Matteo also had a big round for us today with a 3-under 68.”
San Diego claimed the team title with a score of 29-under, followed by Texas Tech (-13). Northwestern (-11), Little Rock (-10), and Colorado (-7) rounded out the top five.
Turnell played an exceptional round to close out the tournament, tallying 12 pars and an impressive stretch of five consecutive birdies on the second nine. His total score of 205 (-8) tied him for second place and marked the fifth-lowest 54-hole total in program history.
Cristoni maintained his steady play, finishing his final round with a three-under-par 68. He remained consistent throughout the event, concluding the tournament at one under par and tying for 33rd place.
Smith ended the tournament with a total score of 210 (-3). Despite four bogeys in the final round, he shot a 72 (+1) to finish in a tie for 19th place.
Rhett South closed out the tournament in a tie for 65th place. He recorded three birdies and 13 pars in his final round, shooting an even-par 71. South finished at six over par with a total score of 219.
Alexander Rowland bounced back on Wednesday with a final-round 72 (+2). He finished the tournament at five over par, recording 12 pars and four birdies to secure a tie for 61st place.
“This was a great week to start the spring semester and beating some of the best teams in the country. The guys have worked really hard all offseason and it was nice to see that be rewarded this week while we still have a long way to go to be where we want to be. We have a few weeks off before we head to our next event in Louisiana.”- said Austin Eoff.
