Nimari Burnett talks about his buzzer-beater for Michigan basketball vs. Rutgers: His first since high school
Buzzer-beating, game-winning shots seem to be all the rage in the state of Michigan.
One day after Michigan State beat Maryland on a game-winner by Tre Holloman, Michigan basketball upped the ante with Nimari Burnett hitting a heavily defended, 25-foot 3-pointer to give the Wolverines an 84-82 win over Rutgers on Thursday.
The Wolverines trailed by 13 points in the first half and 12 in the second half, but a Tre Donaldson layup gave the Wolverines an 81-80 lead with 31 seconds left. Rutgers guard Tyson Acuff was fouled on a 3-point attempt, however, making two free throws to put the Scarlet Knights back ahead.
That set up the heroic shot by Burnett. When Lathan Sommerville and Ace Bailey trapped teammate Danny Wolf, Wolf found Burnett with just over a second left in the game. Burnett heaved the ball and knocked down the game-winner.
Wolverines fans who want a different view of the play — or who simply want another excuse to relive the moment — can also hear the Michigan basketball call of the game-winner.
Here’s the call from Michigan basketball radio’s Brian Boesch and Terry Mills as Burnett hits the buzzer-beater:
