The NFL has suspended Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams for two games for violating the league’s Performance-Enhancing Substances policy, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Per ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, Williams said he is disappointed with the situation but has “no choice but to take it on the chin.”
“I’m in good spirits just ready to get back with my brothers ASAP soon as possible,” Williams said, per Woodyard.
Williams was off to a great start in his third year in the league before the suspension. The former No. 12 pick in the 2022 NFL draft has the second most receiving yards (361) and touchdowns (3) on the Lions behind star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Williams was a star in the collegiate ranks, but has had a rough start to his NFL career.
He played just six games during his rookie season as he recovered from a torn ACL he suffered in college at Alabama.
The suspension also marks the second of his young career. He served a four-game suspension last season for violating the NFL’s gambling policy after mobile betting on non-NFL games from a club facility. The suspension was originally set at six games but was reduced to four.
Williams will now have to miss time again but will look to come back from the suspension and continue to help the Lions as they chase another successful season.
Detroit is off to a 5-1 start to the season and is coming off a 31-29 win over the Minnesota Vikings to hand their division rival their first loss of the season.
