Magda Linette warmed up for the Olympics with a crushing 6-2, 6-1 win over Polish compatriot Magdalena Frech in the final of the Prague Open on Friday to claim her third tour title.
It was the first time two Poles have come head-to-head in a WTA final and fourth seed Linette needed just one hour and 20 minutes to beat sixth seed Frech and pick up the first silverware of her career on clay, and her first title in four years.
“I knew how tough it was going to be,” said 32-year-old Linette, ranked 48 in the world.
“I needed to play my best to beat her. I really have to play my best and I’m glad I took all my chances today.”
The run on the clay in Prague will bring a welcome confidence boost to both players when they arrive in Paris for the Games.
The tennis starts at Roland Garros on Saturday.
Linette faces the Russian Mirra Andreeva, who is competing as an individual neutral athlete, in the first round while Frech takes on the Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova
Fellow Pole Iga Swiatek is the hot favourite to win gold on the same court she won her fourth French Open title last month.
