Letters: Police need buffer zone to do their jobs
I am writing to express my support for the 25-foot police buffer law in Louisiana.
Our officers make sacrifices every day to keep us safe and deserve to feel safe in tense situations. Gov. Jeff Landry did the right thing by signing this bill into law to ensure that the people on the front line feel protected. The crime in Louisiana, especially New Orleans, has gone down thanks to Landry’s new laws, and I believe this law will be no different. Twenty-five feet is a minimum and fair buffer that does not prevent observation of police activities.
This law reduces the likelihood that bystanders could become accidentally involved in unpredictable events that put their lives or our officers’ lives in danger. Act 259 offers a safer environment for all parties involved.
