MADISON, Miss. (WLBT) – With less than 24 hours before Thanksgiving, shoppers are squeezing in their last-minute grocery shopping ahead of the big holiday.
As you can imagine, it’s the biggest week for grocery shopping. Shoppers are flooding the stores, buying various items to make the Thanksgiving meal extra special. Some are even more thankful that food prices are down this year, according to national consumer reports.
“Kroger is a very wonderful place to shop, I can always find what I need and usually if they don’t have it in stock, they can always order it for you,” said Brandon Evans, who was out shopping Wednesday.
Dozens of shoppers flooded Kroger in Madison.
Many of them were buying everything from stuffing and vegetables to eggs and other items to go along with the meal.
“Things like paper plates, forks, napkins, just the usual little things like that. Everything else has been taken care of,” said shopper Audrey King.
“So far everything is wonderful. I got my turkey out ready to put in on the smoker. I just had a couple of items I had to come pick up but I’m ready to go,” said Brandon Evans.
The district manager of Kroger, James Smith, says they are now offering low prices on turkeys, sweet potatoes, and other food items at his store at the Highway 51 location.
For weeks, he says they have been preparing to have all the shelves stocked up ahead of the big holiday.
“I think we have all been bitten by inflation. However, we understand that customers want to save money, so we have hundreds of digital coupons they can download,” said Smith.
But has the prices gone down when it comes to food?
“Just a little… just a little,“ said King.
According to the national consumer report, food prices are lower this year than they have been in previous years.
If you still need more time to get those last-minute food items, you still have time to do so. Many of the stores will either be closed on Thanksgiving Day or closing early.
