Bronny James will soon begin splitting his time between the Los Angeles Lakers roster and the team’s G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported that James will travel with the Lakers for their Oct. 28-Nov. 6 road trip but will then begin splitting time between Los Angeles and South Bay.
His father and teammate, Lebron James, said that the decision will allow Bronny to develop as a player.
“Just [looking forward to] seeing him continue to grow as a basketball player no matter if it’s here with us or if it’s down with the G League team and him continuing to get better and better and better,” LeBron James said, per McMenamin and Charania. “His job is to put the work in and get better and better, just like the rest of us. And we want to hold him accountable, and he’s going to hold us accountable. And if we all do that, we all get better, because we’re all one team. We’re a reflection of South Bay; South Bay is a reflection of us.”
Bronny James made his NBA debut on Oct. 22, logging three minutes while grabbing one rebound and going 0-of-2 from the floor.
He played alongside his father in the 110-103 victory, becoming the first father-son duo in NBA history to do so.
The Lakers will host the Phoenix Suns on Friday night before beginning the six-game road trip. The G League season begins Sept. 9, so Bronny James will appear in South Bay’s season opener against the Salt Lake City Stars.
He will likely continue to have a depth bench role for Los Angeles but should get a starting opportunity with South Bay.
