If the Los Angeles Lakers want to appease their 40-year-old superstar, LeBron James, they could make a valuable move on the trade market.
Acquiring an iconic NBA champion and Dallas Mavericks superstar point guard would give James and the Lakers hope for the rest of the season.
“Kyrie Irving is one of the most talented point guards in the NBA, known for his scoring ability, ball-handling wizardry, and clutch performances,” The Wrightway Sports Network’s Alamedad wrote Thursday.
“His skill set would complement LeBron James perfectly, as both are capable of dominating the ball and creating scoring opportunities in isolation or in transition.”
“Irving is a proven scorer with the ability to take over games in the postseason, as seen in his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he hit the iconic game-winning shot in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA finals.”
“Irving’s championship pedigree adds to the Lakers’ experience. In the high-pressure moments of the playoffs, his ability to close out games could be invaluable.”
“His ability to shoot from anywhere on the floor, along with his lightning-quick handles, gives the Lakers a dynamic weapon on offense. This could free up LeBron to play off the ball more, which might prolong his career and optimize his impact on the court.”
“Irving’s history of performing in big moments adds a layer of security for the Lakers in late-game situations, where they’ve sometimes struggled in recent seasons.”
“A trade for Kyrie Irving would be a significant gamble, but the potential payoff of adding a star with his ability is hard to ignore.”
In the 2016 NBA finals, Irving made a pivotal play that helped the Cleveland Cavaliers pull away from the Golden State Warriors late in the contest.
With under one minute remaining in a tie ball game, Irving sized up Stephen Curry on the right wing before drilling a clutch side-step three-point jumper to give the Cavaliers a three-point lead.
Cleveland eventually secured a hard-fought 93-89 victory, earning them their first championship in franchise history.
While the 32-year-old guard has bounced around the league a bit since then, his awe-inspiring dribble combinations, big-time shot-making, and ambidextrous finishing ability at the rim haven’t disappeared.
Irving is enjoying an impressive 2024-25 campaign with the Mavericks, averaging 24.5 points per contest on 48.3% field goal shooting and 42.7% three-point shooting.
If there’s one for sure, the Lakers desperately need an experienced and proven point guard like Irving to run the show in Los Angeles nightly.
If the Lake Show can craft a trade package for Irving that the Mavericks wouldn’t pass up, Los Angeles could be back in business this season.
