LeBron James’ next step could be to the broadcast booth.
The NBA legend is entering his 22nd season and has two more seasons remaining on his current contract. However, he is clearly closer to the end of his career and soon will have to figure out what exactly he will do when he officially retires.
During an appearance on the Golic and Gojo podcast, James spoke about a potential move to broadcasting following his career and said that it could be an interesting opportunity but that “we will have to see” if it is in his future.”

.@KingJames: Basketball Broadcaster? 🤔

“You know, I don’t know — I definitely love the sport,” James said. “I love basketball, I love football. And I watch it not only as a fan but also just breaking down matchups, just things of that nature. I was brought into sports. When you grow up in Northeast Ohio, listen, you grow up in sports. It would be great. I see Tom Brady doing it. He’s been great so far. And, we will see. Even if it’s just a guest appearance. You know, one game or two, when I’m done playing.”
He also acknowledged that his love for “sport” and giving back to it, hinting that he could have some interest in football as well.
“But it’s always fun to give back to the game,” James said. “The game has given me so much. So if it’s basketball, if it’s football, if it’s whatever — I love the word sport. Because it’s given so much to me and my family and it’s only right I give back to it.”
The Brady comparison is interesting as he was a face of the NFL for more than two decades and now has begun a full broadcasting career that keeps him fully immersed in the NFL season. James doesn’t appear to be overly interested in that hands-on of a role but he could possibly occupy one more similar to the Manning brothers or former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who seem to have a more relaxed schedule.
He does have some media experience, with his podcast alongside his now-head coach J.J. Redick being a strong example. He also has some more things to accomplish on the court and is involved in sports ownership, so that could be the route he goes down instead.
