The Los Angeles Lakers accomplished their primary goal during the trade season.
By swapping Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic, the organization landed a game-changing guard capable of helping the Lakers win now and in the future.
Additionally, the franchise landed Dorian Finney-Smith, a talented two-way wing, and Mark Williams, an underrated big man who’s been held back by injuries.
With Los Angeles shifting gears to the buyout market, it’s important to note that the franchise can’t sign an available asset making $12.8 million or more because it’s over the first apron.
However, there’s a valuable NBA champion guard the Lakers could soon acquire.
Reggie Jackson, who won a title with the Denver Nuggets in 2023, was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Washington Wizards on Feb. 6, but the Wizards later waived the former first-round pick.
With Jackson only making $3 million this year, the Lakers can target him if they’re interested.
Jackson isn’t a future Hall-of-Famer, but he’s managed to hang around the league for over a decade by playing a steady brand of basketball in various roles.
Whether coming off the bench for the Oklahoma City Thunder, controlling the pace, or starting for the Detroit Pistons and operating as one of the franchise’s main scoring threats, Jackson has committed to regularly playing his part.
Jackson has suited up for five franchises since 2011. With Los Angeles, it’s safe to say Jackson would receive a reserve role with the new-look Lake Show.
The 34-year-old pro could provide the Lakers with a battle-tested veteran capable of leading JJ Redick’s second unit.
The Lakers could view Jackson as a valuable post-trade deadline addition this season.
