It’s officially time for Lady Vols basketball in Knoxville.
Tennessee hosts Samford in its season opener in Kim Caldwell’s first season at Food City Center on Tuesday (6:30 p.m., SEC Network+). The Lady Vols made an impression in their exhibition, winning 135-49 against Carson-Newman.
Tennessee was picked to finish No. 7 in the SEC by both the media and the league’s coaches. It received votes in both preseason national polls, and UT was the third team out in the USA TODAY coaches poll.
Lady Vols basketball vs. Samford will not be broadcast on linear television, it will be streamed on SEC Network+. Will Boling and former Lady Vol Kamera Harris will call the game from the court in Food City Center. Other streaming options for this game include Fubo, which offers a free trial to new subscribers.
Tennessee 105, Samford 58: Samford was picked to finish third in the Southern Conference, but it will be no match for Tennessee. The Lady Vols should win their season opener handily — maybe not as wide of a margin as their exhibition, but it’ll feel just as dominant.
Tennessee will be without two guards to start the season. Senior guard Kaiya Wynn was announced out for the season with a torn Achilles and walk-on guard Edie Darby is out for “an extended period of time” due to a left foot injury.
