DOHA, Dec 31, (KUNA): Kuwait’s athletes delivered a stellar performance at the Qatar International Cup and the Arab Weightlifting Championship for men and women, concluding with an impressive haul of 41 medals: 13 gold, 10 silver, and 18 bronze.
The Kuwaiti male and female teams contributed 11 gold, nine silver, and 18 bronze medals to the tally, while Kuwaiti weightlifter Abrar Al-Fahad added two gold and one silver medal to the country’s achievements.
Talal Al-Jassar, Head of the Kuwaiti Weightlifting Federation, praised the athletes’ performance and emphasized the importance of participating in such events for enhancing players’ skills and developing the sport. Speaking to KUNA at the closing ceremony, he expressed gratitude to Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, and Bashar Abdullah, Acting Head of the Public Authority for Sports, for their unwavering support of Kuwaiti sports.
“Our participation aligns with the federation’s strategic efforts to elevate the sport of weightlifting in Kuwait and strengthen its presence on regional and international stages,” Al-Jassar noted.
He highlighted that the medal haul reflects the success of the federation’s development plan and its commitment to enabling Kuwaiti athletes to achieve greater accolades in the future.
During the closing ceremony, Kuwait’s senior female team was honored for their remarkable second-place finish in the Qatar International Cup and fourth-place ranking in the Arab Weightlifting Championship.
