Something’s gotta give in our NBA picks for Sunday’s matchup between the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls.

The Kings roll into the Windy City having reeled off six straight wins, while Chicago has ripped off four straight wins at home. Even if star guard De’Aaron Fox can’t make it back to the lineup as he deals with a hip injury, our Kings vs Bulls predictions have Sacramento staying hot.

My analysis
If you were wondering if this Sacramento Kings win streak under new head coach Doug Christie was all smoke and mirrors, it was put to rest Friday night when they crushed the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics 114-97.

Sacramento has moved to ninth in the ultra-competitive Western Conference, and is just two games back of the Lakers who sit in the sixth spot, and in the last secure playoff position. During this win streak, the Kings are scoring at a tremendous 121.2 points per game clip and holding opponents to 109 points per game.

Their win over the Celtics was the fourth time during the run they’ve held an opponent to 107 points or fewer. If there’s a team that can keep up with the surging Kings, it’s the Chicago Bulls, who entered Sunday fourth in the NBA in scoring at 118.2 points per game.

Last time out, they smacked Washington in a 138-105 drubbing, the second time in less than a week they’ve scored big, dumping New York 139-126 on January 4. Unfortunately, the Bulls give as much as they get, ranking 29th in scoring defense (120.8 ppg allowed). 

Their home streak is because of a defensive improvement, for sure, as they’re holding teams to 113 points over the last four wins, holding teams to 43.9% shooting from the field and 33.5% from 3-point range.

Sacramento has won four of the last five against the Bulls, going 4-1 against the spread in those contests. The Kings have also been playing against a not-so-light slate in building up the wins, with five of their six wins against teams with a winning record and inside the current playoff space in each conference.

They’ve gone 10-5 against teams with a record below .500 — and that record should improve on Sunday.

DeMar DeRozan Over 23.5 points

It’s the first game for DeMar DeRozan against his former club, and he’s in fine form, topping his scoring line of 23.5 in three of his last four outings. The veteran has seen his shooting volume go up in the three games Fox has missed, averaging 22 shots per game. Even if Fox does return, though, he’d be wise to feed the hot hand.

Seventeen shot attempts is his sweet spot: when he’s attempted at least 17 field goals, DeRozan has scored 24+ points in five of his last six games.

Meanwhile, DeRozan’s old running mate Zach LaVine has been on fire for the Bulls since the calendar turned to 2025. He’s coming off a 33-point outing against the Wizards, the fifth straight game in January he’s scored at least 31 points. He’s shooting an absurd 59.8% from the field in those games.

Sacramento has seen LaVine do damage offensively in recent meetings, scoring 28+ points against them in four of the last seven meetings.
