De’Aaron Fox may soon be headed out of Sacramento.
The Kings are “expected to open up talks to potentially” trade Fox ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Charania added that “it’s believed that Fox has a target destination in mind.”
Kings beat writer James Ham reported that Fox’s “preferred landing spot is the San Antonio Spurs.”
The 2023 NBA All-Star is averaging 25.2 points on 46.8 percent shooting with five rebounds and 6.2 assists per game.
The Kings are currently 24-22, sitting in 10th in the Western Conference heading into Tuesday’s play.
It’s been an up-and-down season for Sacramento.
The franchise fired head coach Mike Brown, who won the NBA Coach of the Year award two seasons ago, after the team got off to a 13-18 start.
The Kings have gone 11-4 under interim coach Doug Christie since then, vaulting back into the West playoff race.
Since being drafted with the No. 5 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Kentucky, Fox has played his entire career in Sacramento, making All-NBA third team and winning the Clutch Player of the Year award in 2022-23.
He was instrumental in ending the Kings’ 16-year playoff drought during that season, which ended in a thrilling seven-game series loss to the Warriors in the first round.
