FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team ends its two-and-a-half month winter break to kick off the spring season with a tri-match against a pair of familiar foes. Kentucky, Indiana and Louisville will compete in an 18-hole, stroke-play format on Monday, beginning at 1:18 p.m. ET, at Shadow Wood Preserve (par 72, 6,238 yards) in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Wildcats have competed against each the Hoosiers and Cardinals in recent matches to begin the spring season, but never in a tri-match.
The event will provide the young team with a tough test ahead of a strong spring, as Indiana enters the competition as the reigning Big10 Tournament Champions and Louisville a regional contender in 2023-24. It will foreshadow a competitive and talented spring schedule that head coach Golda Borst, who is in her 15th season, has put together ahead of the Southeastern Conference Tournament and a hopeful postseason run.
Kentucky’s lineup will include senior Marta López Echevarría, sophomore Cathryn Brown, freshman Anastasia Hekkonen, freshman Raleygh Simpson and sophomore Brooke Oberparleiter, while rookies C.A. Carter and Karlie Campbell are set to compete as individuals.
UK has already competed against IU and UofL a combined three times this season, owning a 1-0 record against IU and a 2-0 mark against UofL in 2024-25. All three teams played against one another in UK’s home tournament at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in September, when UK earned runner-up on a 19-over at the esteemed Champion Trace Golf Course in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
Leading UK’s lineup going into the tri-match is senior López Echevarría. Boasting a 71.8 scoring average through nine rounds from three events last fall, she earned three top-20 finishes, including two top-six finishes. She reset her 54-hole career best at the Charles Schwab Women’s Intercollegiate in the fall, logging an even-par 213.
The Wildcats boasted a 290.4 scoring average as a team through four events in 2024-25, on par for the fourth-best scoring average in program history.
The field can expect partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-60s for the tri-match on Monday.
Live scoring will not be available, however fans are encouraged to follow KentuckyWGolf on X and Instagram for live updates. Big Blue Nation also can also find a recap of the tri-match on UKathletics.com Monday evening.
