Barnes and Rodriguez, candidates for the Grade 2 San Felipe on March 1 at Santa Anita, and fellow 3-year-old Citizen Bull all worked for trainer Bob Baffert Monday at Santa Anita.
Unbeaten Barnes worked in company with stablemate Flying Drummer, an allowance-winning 4-year-old. Barnes was clocked going six furlongs in 1:12.00 while Flying Drummer was credited with a five-furlong drill in 1:01.60.
By Into Mischief, Barnes improved to 2-for-2 when winning the San Vicente (G2) going seven furlongs on Jan. 4 at Santa Anita. The 1 1/16-mile San Felipe would be his first time racing around two turns.
Barnes closed this weekend’s Kentucky Derby Future Wager as the 8-1 individual favorite among 39 3-year-olds listed in the pool. The “all others” entry was the overall favorite at 9-2. Barnes is also the favorite at Caesars Sportsbook in Las Vegas as of Sunday, at odds of +650.
Rodriguez completed his solo move in 1:11.80, which shared for the fastest six-furlong work of the day. Citizen Bull, last year’s champion 2-year-old, worked five furlongs with company in 1:00.60. Citizen Bull and Rodriguez most recently ran one-two in the Robert B. Lewis (G3) going a mile on Feb. 1 at Santa Anita.
Citizen Bull, also by Into Mischief, closed the latest Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool as the 9-1 second choice among individual 3-year-olds. Citizen Bull was the 8-1 second choice in Las Vegas futures as of Sunday. Rodriguez, an Authentic colt, closed at 29-1 in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool and was 15-1 in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Big Boat (Nyquist) worked five furlongs in 1:00.2 at Oaklawn on Monday morning. It was the fastest of 19 works at the distance. His previous work was 14 days ago going four furlongs at Oaklawn. In his last start he placed second in an allowance race going one mile on the main track at Oaklawn on Dec. 13 for trainer James DiVito.
Chasing Liberty (Constitution) worked four furlongs in 50.8 seconds at Fair Grounds on Monday morning. It was the 37th fastest of 48 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he won the Bob Bork Texas Turf Mile going one mile on the turf at Sam Houston on Jan. 25 for trainer Rob Atras.
Citizen Bull (Into Mischief), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2024 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, 2024 American Pharoah), worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Santa Anita on Monday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 51 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Robert B. Lewis (G3) going one mile on the main track at Santa Anita on Feb. 1 for trainer Bob Baffert.
Coal Battle (Coal Front) worked three furlongs in 36.8 seconds at Oaklawn on Monday morning. It was the fifth fastest of 14 works at the distance.
