Coal Battle, a winner of three straight stakes including two straight Kentucky Derby points races, worked Friday morning for the second time since his Jan. 4 score in the Smarty Jones at Oaklawn. The son of Coal Front worked four furlongs in 49.8 seconds at Delta Downs. Before his victory in Hot Springs, the Lonnie Briley trainee also took top honors in the Springboard Mile at Remington. Before that, he won the Jean Laffitte at Delta.
In the third Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool, which closed Sunday, Coal Battle closed at 46-1. He is 50-1 in Las Vegas as of Sunday.

His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Delta Downs. In his last start he won the Smarty Jones going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Oaklawn on Jan. 4 for trainer Lonnie Briley.
Colloquial (Vekoma) worked five furlongs in 1:01.9 at Palm Beach Downs on Friday morning. It was the fifth fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going four furlongs at Palm Beach Downs. In his last start he placed second in a maiden race going five furlongs on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on June 15 for trainer George Weaver.
Ferocious (Flatter) worked five furlongs in 1:01.8 at Gulfstream Park on Friday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 18 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In his last start he placed fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Del Mar on Nov. 1 for trainer Gustavo Delgado.
