Built, the Hard Spun colt trained by Wayne Catalano, joined the leaderboard for Kentucky Derby 2025 with his 6 3/4-length win in Saturday’s Gun Runner at Fair Grounds.
He got 10 points for the victory, which put him at no. 12 in the standings. The Gun Runner was the first start for Built since he won a maiden special weight at Keeneland on Oct. 6.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Citizen Bull remains in the no. 1 spot, and Gaming, a stablemate in Bob Baffert’s barn and second in the Juvenile, is at no. 2.
The Gun Runner was the last Derby points prep of the year. Two more are coming up on Jan. 4, the Smarty Jones at Oaklawn and the Jerome at Aqueduct. Both offer 10-5-3-2-1 points to the winner.
Two weeks later, the road to the Kentucky Derby begins to offer races with 20 points to the winner, with the Grade 3 Lecomte at Fair Grounds, followed the next week with the Southwest (G3) at Oaklawn.
