With two Kentucky Derby 2025 points preps last week, the leaderboard has two new names in the top 10.
Springboard Mile winner Coal Battle joins the standings in eighth place, and Journalism, winner of the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity, is in 10th place. Both earned 10 qualifying points for their wins.
Gaming remains in second place but added three points by finishing third in the Los Al Futurity. Getaway Car moved from fourth to third after earning five points for finishing second in the same race.
Saturday’s Gun Runner Stakes is the last points prep of the year. Five were entered for the Fair Grounds stakes, which offers 10-5-3-2-1 points to the top five finishers. The entries include Render Judgment, who has one Derby point for his fifth-place finish in the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2).
The first weekend of the New Year brings two more points preps, the Smarty Jones at Oaklawn and the Jerome at Aqueduct. Both offer 10-5-3-2-1 points.
