Multiple players were ejected after a fight broke out in the third quarter of the San Antonio Spurs’ 146-132 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night.
With about three minutes left in the third quarter at the Frost Bank Center, Thunder forward Kenrich Williams was guarding Spurs forward Julian Champagnie on the wing. As Champagnie went to pass the ball inside, he appeared to elbow Williams in the face accidentally.
Regardless of the intent, Williams didn’t take it well. The two quickly went at it near the scorers table as Jeremy Sochan threw down a dunk. There was some shoving between the two players as coaches and officials ran in to break it up.
While it didn’t last long — the players were eventually separated without much issue — both Williams and Champagnie were hit with technical fouls and ejected from the game. Oklahoma City guard Lou Dort was ejected, too. Sochan received a technical foul for his actions after he ran into the scuffle after his dunk.
Champagnie had eight points when he was ejected. Dort finished with nine points and nine rebounds, and Williams had three rebounds and an assist.
After the chaotic end to the quarter, the Thunder took a 108-100 lead into the final period. They then flew ahead to grab the 14-point win without much of an issue the rest of the way. That pushed Oklahoma City to 49-11.
Jalen Williams led the Thunder with a career-high 41 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 31 points, and Carson Wallace finished with 19 points. They shot better than 54% from the field as a team, too.
Stephon Castle led the Spurs with 32 points and eight rebounds off the bench. De’Aaron Fox added 20 points, and Sochan finished with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists. The Spurs now hold a 25-34 record after the loss, which was their fifth in their last six games.
