Kendrick Lamar, the famous rapper, won a Grammy Award recently and went on to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime. When Kendrick Lamar had announced back in September 2024 that he would be taking the stage at Super Bowl Halftime, fans were pretty excited to watch him perform. But fans did not end up having the same reaction when Kendrick Lamar finally ended up taking the stage at Super Bowl LIX last night.
Fans feel Kendrick Lamar turned his Super Bowl LIX Halftime’s performance into a diss track for Drake, rather than performing his own iconic songs. Many fans are disappointed by Kendrick Lamar’s actions.
A fan took to X and wrote, “I hate that Kendrick made his career revolve around Drake now. He not even performing his classic songs”, while another fan wrote, “superbowl is over now and kendrick would just be remembered as the guy that dissed drake😂 “
A third fan wrote, “That’s the shame of it. Even as a Kendrick hater I would have love to vibe out to BDKMV. He basically made his entire super bowl about Drake and probably had to pay production costs to do it. Sloppy work. I doubt this sells an extra concert ticket.”
Some of Kendrick Lamar’s fans have also defended his performance. A fan wrote, “There was clearly a whole diss track between him & drake. Kendrick was already established before this diss track & clearly…the MAJORITY of the population loves it.”
Another fan wrote, “honestly he doesnt have to and he doesnt care. this was all about dissing drake. he already been at the top for the last decade and already peformed at superbowl”
Before last night’s performance, there were many discussions around whether Kendrick Lamar would perform his highly popular diss track, “Not Like Us”. The reason for this is, that when the highly popular song was released in May 2024, famous rapper Drake had filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group.
Many fans believed that Kendrick Lamar would be skipping the diss track because the NFL might not allow it due to the controversy surrounding “Not Like Us”. But Kendrick shocked everyone when he went on stage last night at the Super Bowl Halftime and said, “I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue.”
He then went on to perform the popular diss track and also a silver necklace that carried a pendant for the letter “a” which is being related to his lyrics where he accuses Drake of “being with minors” – something that Drake had denied before.
Kendrick Lamar also performed his controversial lines last night – “trying to strike a chord and it’s probably a minor” and “Say Drake, I hear you like them young” and
While fans did not like Kendrick Lamar’s performance last night, a reaction from Drake is awaited on this one.
