King Charles is hosting the Amir of the State of Qatar for a State Visit next week on December 3 and 4. And today, Buckingham Palace has announced that Kate Middleton will be among the royals taking part in the official welcome of the Amir and his wife.
“Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales will greet The Amir and Sheikha Jawaher at their residence, on behalf of The King, on Tuesday morning,” Buckingham Palace said. “The Prince and Princess of Wales will travel with Their Highnesses to Horse Guards Parade, where The Amir and Sheikha Jawaher will receive a Ceremonial Welcome.” Kensington Palace has said, however, that the Princess is not expected to be at the State Banquet that evening.
The fact that Kate is taking part in the State Visit is a development from June this year when she did not participate in the State Visit for the Emperor and Empress of Japan. Then, she was receiving chemotherapy, which she announced in September that she had completed.
It is tradition for the heir to the throne and their partner to welcome visiting dignitaries for a State Visit and travel with them to Horseguards Parade for an official welcome. William and Kate have performed this role since he became Prince of Wales. Following the State Visit, Kate’s next appearance will be at her carol concert on December 6, which is being televised on Christmas Eve.
