This afternoon, Kate Middleton joined the royal family in welcoming the Emir of Qatar and his first wife, Sheikha Jawaher, for Qatar’s U.K. state visit. The Princess of Wales has been making a gradual return to work after announcing she completed her chemotherapy treatment in September.
For the formal occasion, Kate wore a burgundy coat dress from Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. She accessorized with a hat from Sahar Millinery and a pearl necklace and drop earrings owned by the late Queen Elizabeth. She had her hair styled up so her hat and accessories were the focus of the look.
Kate also wore burgundy when she did her first event after finishing chemotherapy. She opted for a pantsuit for the early October meeting with a young photographer and her family at Windsor Castle. “A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today,” she and her husband, William, wrote on Instagram at the time. “A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. ❤️ W&C.”
Kate stressed that healing is still her focus when she shared news of finishing chemotherapy. “Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus,” she wrote on Instagram. “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life. William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling.”
Kate will have another major event this week, as the princess is hosting her annual Together at Christmas Carol Service on December 6.
