After coming up short of a title at the China Open, Karolina Muchova eyes a strong finish to her campaign in the Asian swing of the tour by mounting a title-winning run at the 2024 Ningbo Open. She starts her campaign against Olivia Gadecki of Australia in the first round. Muchova, a semifinalist at the US Open in back-to-back years, racked up six consecutive wins before she ran out of fumes in the finals against American Coco Gauff 6-1 6-3 at the China Open. Despite not winning the title, Muchova delivered one of the best stretches of tennis on the WTA Tour this year as she obliterated her first four opponents before subduing world’s No.1 Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(5) 2-6 6-4 in the quarterfinals and Zheng Qinwen 6-3 6-4 in front of hundreds of pro-Chinese crowds in the semifinal. After failing to qualify for the main draw of the Wuhan Open, Gadecki did the job this time by barging into the main draw of the Ningbo Open with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Anna Bondar. The 22-year-old Aussie also reached the final of the Guadalajara Open, losing to Magdalena Frech 7-6(5) 6-4.
