ORLANDO, Fla. – The Kansas women’s golf team sits tied for fifth place at the PDI Intercollegiate at Eagle Creek Course with a score of 15-under par. The Jayhawks are led by senior Lauren Clark, who sits in first place at 12-under par after posting a 67 (-5) in the second round.
“I’m really proud of the way the ladies came back today after a rough start yesterday, really awesome playing by Lauren Clark, Lyla, Johanna and Amy, and we still didn’t make a ton of puts but we stayed in it.” Kansas head coach Lindsay Kuhle said.
Baylor leads the 17-team field at 26-under par, followed by North Carolina (-18), Duke (-18), Mississippi State (-17), UCF (-15) and Kansas (-15) to round out the top 5.
Clark led the way for the Jayhawks in the second round of the PDI Intercollegiate with a score of 67 (-5) after firing off a career low round of 66 (-6) in Sunday’s opening round. Clark was able to put together another bogey-free round while also posting five birdies.
Sophomore Lyla Louderbaugh put together an impressive performance in the second round to help the Jayhawks. After Louderbaugh finished the front nine at +1, she rattled off four birdies on the back nine and finished with a score of 69 (-3).
Senior Johanna Ebner and junior Amy DeKock both finished the second round with a score of 71 (-1). Ebner was able to post three birdies while DeKock posted a bogeyless front nine and carded two birdies.
“Lauren has been awesome with ball striking and putting, and Johanna’s been very consistent. Amy was much better today with the ball striking and short game. And Lyla stepped up, which was great to shoot 69 and get a solid finish from her.” Kuhle added.
Senior Lily Hirst finished with a score of 73 (+1) putting together an impressive bogeyless front nine.
Freshman Ebba Nordstedt carded a 69 (-3) and posted six birdies, including four-in-a-row from holes 14 through 17.
Due to forecasted fog Tuesday morning, the course decided to start the third and final round after the second round concluded, leading to the Jayhawks playing their first six holes of the third round Monday afternoon.
Clark was able to continue her bogeyless tournament, carding a birdie on her final hole of the day. Ebner started off the final round strong, including back-to-back birdies to move her into 15th place individually.
DeKock finished the day in 39th place, followed by Lyla Louderbaugh who sits in 50th place. Hirst sits in 68th place following the conclusion of the second day.
