Kansas State football has not had much recent success coming off bye weeks under coach Chris Klieman, and the last time the Wildcats played on the road at altitude for a Big 12 After Dark matchup things certainly didn’t go well.
So, can the No. 19-ranked Wildcats (4-1, 1-1) reverse those trends against a surging Colorado team (4-1, 2-0) Saturday under the lights at Folsom Field? They will have to in order to keep pace in what so far has been a wild and unpredictable conference race.
K-State has lost its lasts four games coming off open dates but did have an impressive performance two weeks ago with a 42-20 home victory over Oklahoma State. Before that, the Wildcats laid an egg in their Big 12 opener at Brigham Young, falling 38-9, to the unbeaten Cougars.
Colorado, which like BYU was picked to finish in the bottom half of the conference, is riding a three-game winning streak, including Big 12 victories over Baylor (38-31 in overtime) and two weeks ago on the road at Central Florida (48-21). The Buffaloes also are coming off a bye.
