Kannur: It will be an emotional moment for Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid when Qatar take on India in a Group A fixture of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers on June 11. The 19-year-old Tahsin, whose parents hail from Kannur, has been included in the 29-member Qatar squad picked by their Spanish head coach Marquez Lopez.
Tahsin’s father, Jamshid, is from Thalassery, while his mother, Shaima, is a native of Valapattanam near Kannur. He was born in Qatar where his father works as an accountant.
Tahsin, who plays as a left winger, has been training at Qatar’s Aspire Football Academy and has featured in Qatar’s various age-group squads. He was part of the Qatari U-16, U-17, and U-19 national teams.
Recently, he made headlines making his debut for Al Duhail in the Qatar Stars League, the country’s first division football league. He became the first-ever Indian origin footballer to play in the cash-rich league.
