Days after her electoral loss to Donald Trump, and amid her ‘marriage in trouble’ reports, Kamala Harris was seen grocery shopping with her husband Doug Emhoff on Thursday. While some praised the couple for stepping out in between the public and returning to normal civilian life, others slammed what Kamala Harris was seen carrying.
Multiple videos on social media showed Kamala and her husband Doug at the 99 Ranch Market Asian Grocery store in Westwood, California.

However, netizens, keeping a hawk eye on the former US Vice President, noticed that she was carrying plastic bags to carry what she bought.
This came as a surprise because Kamala Harris during her 2019 presidential campaign, had spoken about banning plastic straws.
Soon after her videos went viral, social media users bashed her for using plastic bags.
“Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff seen grocery shopping together with plastic bags, violating left-wing environmental doctrine,” one user wrote.
“How dare Kamala Harris use plastic grocery bags,” another user asked.
A third user wrote, “The two were seen using plastic bags, even though Harris had campaigned before on banning plastic straws.”
“Remember when she wanted to ban plastic straws in California?”, another X user asked in a post.
During her 2019 White House bid, Harris excited progressives by supporting a ban on plastic straws as part of her environmentalist agenda.
“I think we should,” she said during a CNN town hall back in 2019, conceding that she felt paper straws needed to improve. “We do need to ban the plastic.”
Harris later abandoned her position on banning plastic straws during her 107-day stint as the 2024 Democratic presidential standard bearer.
It was one of many instances in which she tacked to the centre from some of the hardcore progressives she had taken during her unsuccessful 2020 bid. Harris ultimately dropped her 2020 bid before the Iowa caucuses as she fell in the polls and money dried up.
According to The New York Post, Harris and Emhoff flew back to California on January 20, soon after President Donald Trump returned to the White House.
Since her defeat against Trump last November, Harris has been tight-lipped about her next steps. However, according to some media reports, she has said she intends to “stay in the fight” and won’t “go quietly into the night”.
