The Benjamin School’s girls golf team won a district championship on Monday at Trump International West Palm Beach with a little help from the family of the course’s namesake.
The Bucs ran away with the team championship with a score of 320 (+28), finishing 19 shots clear of second-place Oxbridge Academy (+47).
Kai Trump, the granddaughter of 45th U.S. President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald J. Trump, shot an 84 (+11) to help the Bucs win the team title. She placed sixth individually and was Benjamin’s third-best finisher.
Trump, who is committed to play golf collegiately at the University of Miami, celebrated the victory on her golf Instagram, posting, “District champs!”
Benjamin junior Kaitlyn Hummers raised the individual district championship trophy after shooting a 1-over 74. Eighth-grade teammate Reese McMillan, Oxbridge Academy junior Maddie Hyndman and Berean Christian junior Staci Pla finished two shots back of Hummers in a tie for second place.
Benjamin and Oxbridge Academy girls golf teams advance to compete at the Region 4-1A championships at Miami Shores Golf Club on Tuesday. Pla and Cardinal Newman senior Christiana Lee advance as individual qualifiers.
