Speculations regarding MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL continue to build as the IPL 2025 retention deadline and mega auction gets closer and closer.
Neither Dhoni nor Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had not confirmed anything about the retention of their former captain so far. However, in a recent promotional event of Rigi, the man himself dropped the hint of playing IPL for another few seasons.

Speaking at the event, Dhoni said that he wanted to enjoy whatever cricket he has left in him in the final few years of the career and these lines from him have started a chatter that he might be one of the retentions that the Chennai-based franchise makes ahead of the mega auction.

“When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do. It’s not easy. The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years,” said the former CSK captain.
“I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit,” Dhoni added.
Interestingly, as per the new retention policy, the 42-year-old, who has represented India in 538 international games will be considered as an uncapped player since his last game was over 5 years ago, making him a potential retention for just 4 crores.
